SmartSuite’s integrated model of choice, guidance, and employee engagement minimizes premium increases. Humana conducted a major study of its SmartSuite health plans that validates the effectiveness of its guidance solution. Average annualized net trend for 192 large employers is 4.2 percent, as of July 2006.
Study participants:
- Used more preventive services with fewer inpatient hospital stays
- Had 76.8 percent prescription drug compliance versus 62.7 percent in traditional plans
- Used Humana’s online resources 50 percent more frequently than other members

To become a SmartAssurance partner, you must have a minimum of 300 employees for Elite categorization and execute SmartSuite strategies proven to achieve results:
- Create a flat contribution strategy based on a reference plan
- Offer four to six plans
- Two plans must be Consumer-Driven Health Plan (CDHP) options
- Sponsor “active” open enrollment with default plan being CDHP
- Use online tools pre- and post-enrollment
- Commit to two-year policy
